【摘要】:DirectpushLIFisusedforsiteinvestigationswherethedelineationofpetroleumhydrocarbonsandotherfluorophoresisnecessary.Generictermsfortheseinvestigationsaresiteassessmentsandhazardouswastesiteinvestigations.ContinuousLIFisusedtoprovideinformationontherelativeamountsofcontaminationandtoprovidealithologicaldetailofthesubsurfacestrata.Theseinvestigationsarefrequentlyrequiredinthecharacterizationofhazardouswastesites.Thistechnologyprovidespreliminaryresultswithinminutesfollowingthecompletionofeachtest.Thisallowsthenumber,locations,anddepthsofsubsequentteststobeadjustedinthefield.Fieldadjustmentmayincreasetheefficiencyoftheinvestigationprogram.TherapidfluorescencedatagatheringprovidedbydirectpushLIFprovidesinformationnecessarytoassessthepresenceofcontaminationinsoilsandassociatedporefluidsinthefield.Thismethodallowsforimmediatedeterminationofrelativeamountsofcontamination.Thisallowsthenumber,locations,anddepthsofsubsequentactivitiestobeadjustedinthefield.Fieldadjustmentmayincreasetheefficiencyoftheinvestigationprogram.Withappropriatesensors,thedirect-pushinvestigationprogramcanprovideinformationonsoilstratigraphyandthedistributionofpetroleumandotherfluorophoresinthesubsurface.Thismethodresultsinminimumsitedisturbanceandgeneratesnocuttingsthatmightrequiredisposal(1).ThispracticeisconfirmedusingsoilsamplescollectedatgivendepthstoconfirmthefluorescencereadingsusingafielddeployedEPAMethod418.1(2),EPAmethod8015-modified,andamodifiedEPA8270Method(3),orequivalentmethodologies,ascomparedtothefluorescencereadingfromthesamedepthfromthesensortoverifythatthefluorescencecorrelateswiththecontamination.Thecollectedsamplesarealsotestedontheprobewindowinthetrucktoensurethesamplecollectedisrepresentativeoftheregiontestedinsitu.Thispracticemaynotbethecorrectmethodforpreliminaryorsupplementalinvestigationsinallcases.Chemicalandphysicalpropertiesofsitespecificsoilmatricesmayhaveaneffectonsitespecificdetectionlimits.Subsurfaceconditionsaffecttheperformanceoftheequipmentandmethodsassociatedwiththedirectpushmethod.Directpushmethodsarenoteffectiveinpushinginsolidbedrockandaremarginallyeffectiveinpushinginweatheredformations.Densegravellytillswherebouldersandcobblesarepresent,stiffandhardclays,andcementedsoilzonesmaycauserefusalandpotentialprobebreakage.Certaincohesivesoils,dependingontheirmoisturecontent,cancreatefrictionontheconepenetrometerprobeswhichcaneventuallyequalorexceedthestaticreactionforceand/ortheimpactenergybeingapplied.Aswithalldirectpushmethods,precautionsmustbetakentopreventcrosscontaminationofaquifersthroughmigrationofcontaminantsupordowntheconepenetrometerhole.Thepracticingofdirectpushtechniquesmaybecontrolledbyvariousgovernmentregulationsgoverningsubsurfaceexplorations.Certificationorlicensingregulations,orboth,mayinsomecasesbeconsideredinestablishingperformancecriteria.Foradditionalinformationsee(4-15)1.1Thispracticecoversthemethodfordelineatingthesubsurfacepresenceofpetroleumhydrocarbonsandotherhydrocarbonsusingafiberopticbasednitrogenlaser-inducedfluorescencesensorsystem.1.2Thepetroleumhydrocarbonsensingschemeutilizesafluorescencetechniqueinwhichanitrogenlaseremitspulsedultravioletlight.Thelaser,mountedontheconepenetrometerplatform,islinkedviafiberopticcablestoawindowmoun......
